Hello!

My name is Pragya Diwan, founder of The Student Ally. If you are reading this, then chances are that you are someone who plans to come Canada, study and maybe look at staying here to become a permanent resident. 

 

You know, coming to a different country as a student is always challenging. So many things to consider and learn. A new country, a new school, a need to make money while studying, a need to find the right place to live. Not to mention, buying a cell phone, opening a bank account and so many other tasks I had to learn how to do on my own.

 

As a journalist from India with a penchant for telling stories and after working for five years in the mainstream media, juggling between deadlines, covering breaking news and searching stories, I decided to take a break and explore living and studying in another country. 

So, I made an impromptu decision of travelling to Canada and study. In just three months, I was in Canada as an international student, which changed my life.

 

I soon realized that even for a journalist who travelled to the interiors of a vast country like India, experiencing and surviving in Canada country as a student is different, difficult and lonely. I had to learn a lot very quickly. I found that I made some decisions that cost me time, money, and stress. In hindsight however, looking back at my experiences here in Canada, I’m glad I took this chance to come here.  It was worth it. But then I realized that many international students have dozens of expectations and dreams, and they want to make it big in Canada. What if they had an ally here to help them make good decision about their student life that eliminate some of the stress but also save them money?
